Episode 8
When Martin arrived at his parent's house, he was disappointed when he met them yelling at each other.
"How could you insist that Martin should cancel his wedding plans, Vivian is pregnant and I don't know why you don't want our son to get married to a woman whom he loves and adore, how could you be so unreasonable?" Martin's mother threw in.
"I have my reasons, trust me that girl is not good for our son, I don't know why you are acting like you don't understand English language anymore, what part of her not being a good choice for our son that you don't understand" chief Okoh responded
"Why, let me know your reasons first, you have refused to tell me the reason why Martin shouldn't marry his fiancee, Vivian, what has come over you? Why did you want to complicate things for our son, I don't think he will be happy with your decision" Martin's mother added.
Martin's parent were seriously yelling at each other but when they noticed Martin's presence, they comported themselves and suddenly went mute.
"What's going on here? Martin asked at once.
"My son....Thank God you are here, I want you to cancel every plans you have made for your wedding because I will never allow you to get married to Vivian, she is not good for you" Chief Okoh entered immediately.
the first thing Martin asked was “Dad why? Vivian is pregnant for me and I love her so much”
That question threw Chief Okoh off balance and left him a bit confused as to how he will give his reasons without his secret being exposed.
"I heard Vivian was a slut back in her university days in Calabar" Chief Okoh responded
“Dad how did you know about that?” Martin asked and his father had to lie that he heard from the gossips flying around.
"Dad since when did you start listening to gossips, I don't mind if my Vivian was a slut during her University days, all I care about is her present and most especially, I love her so much, Dad everyone has a past" Martin said calmly.
Mr Okoh had the perfect opportunity to come clean and tell his wife and son about Vivian and his illegitimate son, Eric, it was indeed a perfect time for the old man to come out of hiding. But when he imagined how his son and wife will react, he suddenly lost his voice and kept mute.
Martin took a deep breath and stared in to his father's eyes; “Daddy, Vivian is a lady I want to marry and I love her so much, trust me, she is a good girl”Martin continued
“my son, do you know that she is a single mother? She has a 6 years old son" Mr Okoh entered.
"A son?, Vivian has a son?" Martin's mother bluntly asked , one could easily see how shocked she was. Martin and Vivian never disclosed that fact.
"Dad, how do you know so much about my fiancee?" Martin said softly
" I have my ways of finding out things, you are my son and I don't want you to get into a wrong marriage" Chief Okoh responded
"Martin, is it true that Vivian really has a son?" Martin's mother asked repeatedly
“Mom, yes she has a son and I love the little boy, infact I'm so fond of that boy, mom it doesn't matter if the boy is not my biological son but I love the boy as much as I love his mother" Martin finally replied.
Before Martin could talk further, his mother hushed him and said “ Martin, you have to Un-love Vivian and her son now, because I would never accept such lady into this family and that is final”.
Martin’s mother was about to start a war that didn’t seemed like it was going to end anytime soon and chief Okoh was so delighted that he had won his wife to his side.
"Now you see what I was telling you but you kept singing Vivian's praise" Chief Okoh added.
Martin who was deeply in love with Vivian, at that point was willing to go to war with his parents for her. But will he really stand by her till the end, how will he react when the truth finally comes out?
Martin tiredly got up and walked away from his parents without uttering another word in the bid to defend his decisions. “Where are you going to? We are not done talking, whatever you have with Vivian should be over, you can't settle down with a girl who had a child out of wedlock and worst she was a slut during her days in the university, how are we so sure that she had really changed her ways or if the child she is expecting is really yours? Bad habits don't die easily, a slut will always be a slut ” His mother said, but still Martin didn't stop or say a word to his parents.
It's was obvious that there was nothing more for him to talk about with his parents because they have clearly shut him off.
" I thought my parents would be happy for me... Why will they suddenly turn against my Vivian but come to think of it, something doesn't feel right, how did my father know so much about Vivian, how did he know that she attended University of Calabar, have my dad met Vivian before now?.. Vivian suddenly fainted immediately she met my father.. do they really know each other.....No that's not possible.... I guess I'm totally wrong, Vivian would have told me if she knew my Dad before now, we tell each other every thing, there's no secrets between us” Martin thou ght as he drove away.
